FAQ

I am a complete beginner at the guitar, is the TPA Cohort for me?Currently the TPA Cohort Program is designed for intermediate guitarists. These are players who already have been introduced to the fundamentals of playing classical guitar. The monthly one-on-one coaching session provides you to touch base with Nick and receive detailed feedback on your playing. This is a great place to ask clarifying questions on aspects of your playing, technique, theory knowledge, etc… that you feel uncomfortable with. While Nick can provide helpful resources for you, these are supplemental resources for your learning and complete beginners will find the topics fast paced and challenging.
-
I’ve played for years, what will the TPA Cohort do for me?The TPA Cohort Program focuses on applying the elements of learning, music theory and history, performance to give students the confidence, clarity and consistency to express themselves through music no matter the situation. Every Cohort membership has access to our community forum of supportive and like-minded learners. Learning in a community helps support your independence and connect with the content of the 5 Pillars System. Weekly Q&As and monthly one-on-one coaching sessions allows you to ask more pointed and specific questions and provides the flexibility that more advanced students need.
-
I don’t know if I’m ready - can I join the TPA Cohort later?Enrollment for the opens twice a year. Due to the nature of the LIVE presentations, joining mid session is not possible. However, you can join our waitlist and receive notifications in advance of when the enrollment opens again.
-
I play on a steel-string guitar and play more fingerstyle than strictly classical, is this program a good fit?The simple answer is YES! All the concepts and topics covered in the 5 Pillars System can be applied to a multitude of different playing styles and genres. The material will be presented from a classical guitar perspective and students will need to have a fundamental understanding of note reading, however the weekly Q&As and monthly private coaching sessions provide ample opportunity to ask specific questions for your needs. Additionally, the community forum is a great place to ask for feedback and get other’s perspectives on the matter.
-
What pieces will I learn? The focus of this program is about application of skill rather than teaching you music. Before the first live workshop, students will be contacted and will be walked through steps of how to choose the music they work on in the program. It is highly encouraged to focus on a single piece of music during participation of the cohort as the skillsets of each pillar are introduced over the 5 months of the program in an organized curriculum/workflow. This unique approach allows each student to work on music that creatively inspires them.
-
How is the program structured? Each month of the cohort is dedicated to one of the 5 Pillars. The weekly live workshops take participants step by step through understanding and applying the topics covered in each Pillar. There are 4 presentations per month and each one will be available for replay for all participants to rewatch or to watch if they are unable to make the live session. Participants will be given actionable steps every week. These actionable steps will contribute to weekly challenges in the community forum. Weekly zoom sessions for Q&A provide participants additional time to gain clarification. Once a month you’ll meet with Nick in a private coaching session. Before the session you’ll be able to give a bit of description of what you’re focused on in your practice and what your current struggles are. At the end of the whole program there will be a virtual performance where you get an opportunity to test what knowledge and skill that you’ve gained over the 5 months.
